We are snowbound in Stoke Albany and there is no vehicle access to the village hall- the local council has not salted the B669 (as usual) and the snow is still falling at an angle of about 15 degrees so it will be drifting too. What a bore – I was so looking forward to […]
I’m going mad on my new e-spinner it is so fast – this took less than three hours. The skein is about nearly 200 yards and comprises three colours, peach, sand and cream plyed with white mohair – it will probably end up in a shawl…
While unable to work due to my back I passed some time spinning up leftovers – Firstly I carded it all together – could see no point in spinning small amounts of fibre just to create a load of odd balls of yarn – my idea was to create a lot of the ‘same-but-different’ yarns […]
last week I met with some of the weavers booked into Weaving School 15-18 April to discuss what they would like to do so as to allocate looms and source materials for the course from 15-18 April. Inspiration comes from diverse sources – from graffiti to …..? Identify the subject of this picture and you […]
Here is my first spinning off the e-spinner. It is from merino tops which I dyed with landscape dyes. I intend to use it to make ‘coils’ or ‘corkscrews’ yarn during my course for beginners and improvers at Knuston Hall from 10-12th May 2013. www.knustonhall.org.uk
When launching his e-spinner at Woolfest, Richard Ashford said to me: ‘Be great for teaching on Pam!’ What a salesman, he knew exactly which buttons to press with me! I collected my new e-spinner from Linzi last week – five years and nearly £400 later. I haven’t stopped spinning on it since Friday and not a pupil […]
These lovely shawl/scarf pins were very popular at Woolly Day being just £3 each
If you have a copy of The Gruffalo then you will recognise the colours from the front cover…Rachel was wondering which colours to mix at our colour workshop and realised that the designer of the cover page had done the work for her. It saved a lot of uncertainty.
This is one of two cushion covers that Ros is making to go on her two new sofas.
This amazing patchwork proved quite a talking point over lunch at Woolly Day…to see the detail just click to enlarge the picture.. it is not quite finished yet and is destined to be an engagement present.
Rowan was at Spinningschool before he was born. He recently came again with his little brother this time. Much to his mother’s delight they were very well behaved and she was able to spin up some of her experimental rolags from the Working with Colour workshop in February
Our shared lunches are always a suprise – this month Jane brought some of her Blueberry Gin! Seriously good stuff!
Pat has completed this lovely Castlemilk morrit waistcoat – it was much admired at Spinningschool in February
This is Wendy with her first spinning – it is so pleasing when you handle your first skein. She is going to make some wrist-warmers with the yarn – meriono tops, plyed with tussah silk.
Rachel bought a prizewinning Shetland fleece at Melton Mowbray recently. She has spun the yarn as you see, and was given the rosette – pity the rosette maker couldn’t spell Mowbray! Moral: only buy rosettes from Jane Goodie!
Rachel brought these lovely yarns made from fibre she dyed in January – the colours are very rich.
One would think she was the only person at SpinningSchool on Tuesday 12 Feb – there were 12 others actually – but Erica has featured strongly this month because she produced the most work which meant it featured in the most photographs…
This unique yarn is by Erica – she dyed the fleece at Spinningschool in January
It was cold in the village hall – this lady put on her sunglasses and made a masterfly effort at self-delusion
