These two rugs demonstrate extremes of weaving – left hand one is made from spun and unspun Wensleydale fleece and woven on a peg loom; on the right is a fine quality rug in handspun, high twist Jacob, and was woven on an eight shaft floor loom. Both rugs have had about five years’ wear at home – the Wensleydale has been in the washing machine but I would not be so ruthless as to do that with the Jacob!. Ruth is holding her first spinning which could be woven on a peg loom or may be woven on a traditional loom in my weaving room.
