Managing colour

01/07/2015 –10:00 - 16:30

Managing colour is essential if you want to enjoy spinning and making beautiful yarn. Otherwise you are at the mercy of chance – if I had been taught colour theory at school it would have made a world of difference, but its never too late to learn. And this is a crash course but made easy – no complicated colour theory speak – that only puts people off or makes them feel inadequate. You will learn a few tips and tricks, basic colour theory and at the end of the day be able to change a coloured fibre or yarn you don’t like into one you do. Course includes a bag of coloured merino tops and you are encouraged to bring along your own fibre (maybe something you don’t like!) and change it into something you really like! Colour Values, Harmony, Complimentary colours, Juxtaposition, Tints, tones and Shades, Artists colour wheel are some of the things we will be looking at. While experimenting with colour you will also learn how to make rolags – painlesslyrolags and carders

colour in spinningAs well as a confidence boost, this will mean a more satisfying, rewarding and pleasurable time with your spinning wheel and fibre. When something is too, bright, too dull, too ‘In your face’, or looks as if it belongs in playschool you will know how to sort it. And that is a very good feeling indeed. If you don’t manage colour it will manage you, and the work of our hands is too precious to be left to chance. Shared lunch, arrive anytime after 10.30. You will need carders, wheel and any fibre you feel needs ‘managing’.
