Long draw spinning course

04/10/2017

Long draw spinning course – . Why spin 3 inches at a time when you could spin an arms length? Life’s too short for anything less than long draw. It is so relaxing and satisfying to draw out a long thread and feel it stretching like chewing gum as the fibres attenuate. Thats what I love about spinning, the continuous and fluid production, sitting back in my chair and at peace with my wheel. I can never feel such joy in being hunched over the orifice and having a tug-of-war with my wheel.  And contrary to popular opinion, it is not difficult to learn – in the 1980’s it used to be claimed that it was too difficult to teach! spin long drawRubbish. History has proved it! I have taught lots of people to spin long draw and it generally only takes one lesson to grasp the basic technique. In fact, I’m so confident that if anyone attending the doesn’t feel they understand the technique at the end of the day I will refund their fee! The more I teach long draw the quicker people seem to learn. Beginners are taught on a choice of wheels – including the e-spinner which is brilliant to learn on as it can turn so slowly, slower than any wheel. This give pupils time to think about what their hands are doing without the distraction of a wheel. Blue faced Leicester is very easy to spin so this is used in the course and by using two colours it is easy to see when the join has taken place and when to draft a roving. No previous experience is necessary. This day course is suitable for absolute beginners and spinners who would like to spin faster and in a more satisfying and relaxing manner. Spin long draw: life’s too short for anything less.
