First wednesday workshop

First Wednesday Workshop

first wednesday workshopFirst Wednesday workshop – spinning weaving and dyeing. A social day with something new each month and the company of a small group of kind, generous and supportive people who love wool.  During the recent snowy days I have been experimenting with dye. And made a discovery!!! I can now dye my yarn in colours like those I (used to) buy from Oliver Twist who supplies the most divine silk in my favourite sophisticated and classy shades of blue/green/purple.

The dyeing is a two stage process and I will be  sharing my new found skill at this workshop. Dye packs (£24.50) will be on sale on the day. The yarn pictured here is purchased, undyed in the skein, from Purlwise, Kimbolton  – merino, alpaca and silk. It is listed as double-knit but I use it as sock yarn. However, this is so beautiful I am just going to hang it in my studio and admire it for the time being! But will bring it along to show you and prove that this photo is not doctored in any way. There will be opportunity to try the technique for yourself on the day. Yarn in the photo was supplied, and can be ordered for delivery on the day,  from Purlwise: Jackie Speed <jacqui@purlwise.co.uk> Tel: 01480 861727. Alternatively, you could bring a skein of your own handspun yarn or buy 100gm BFL fibre or locks  and dye it yourself. If you intend to do some dyeing – not compulsory – remember to bring apron, gloves and a dye pot if you have one.

Or you could just watch the demonstration while you spin or weave and work on your own project and enjoy the company of a lovely small group of kind, supportive and generous ‘woollies’ as my dear husband used to call us. The Day includes three course lunch –  with occasional mulled wine or an aperitif – coffee, tea and home-made cakes and biscuits. There is also the opportunity to bring along your own work and display it – this can be a very affirming experience and often inspires future workshop activities. We have made felt book covers, mood boards, Christmas woolly wreaths,  and done lots of dyeing – our favourite activity.

Booking is essential – just email me  –  pam@spinningschool.org
