Dye your own sock yarn or stash
03/07/2019 –10:00 - 16:30£45.00
Dye your own sock yarn or stash at my workshop at Knuston Hall in the Practical room – lower car park. Be inspired. Try out as many Ashford and WoW acid dyes as you like. Work on your own, or with as much help and inspiration as you need.
Bring or buy
Buy scrumptious undyed skeins, or prepared tops to dye or bring your own. Choose from luxury sock yarns – silk, cashmere, alpaca, and super wash wool. Dye these on the day or take home and hone your newfound colour skills. But there is no need to buy. Bring your own commercially prepared fibre, handspun yarn or oddments from stash. Even balls of yarn will dye with the easy to use superfast dyes. No raw fleece please.
Watch demonstrations and expect to dye at least two batches, maybe more during the day.
Acid = vinegar
The dyes used are known as acid, but they are not harmful as the name implies. Designed for protein fibres, these dyes are safe and very easy to use because the ‘acid’ part is simply vinegar which is added to the dye bath to assist take-up. They are colour-fast and light-fast and extremely penetrative. Different colours can be mixed and blended in the same pot or used individually for replicable results.
The colours can be vibrant or subtle. All you need is a little knowledge and a secret I will share with you…
Bring your own apron and your own dye pan if you have one, if not there will be some to borrow. Everything else is supplied. Watch demonstrations and expect to dye at least two batches, maybe more during the day.
Just come along, get your gloves on, and cook up a brew, because it is such fun. Even oddballs of dyed yarn will frequently take up more dye and give some fascinating results which manage to look right together.
A great day out that will reduce your stash and produce something unique and inspirational.
Alternatively bring your spinning wheel or loom and watch the workshop while working on your own project and chatting with people who love what you love and receive a £5 refund on the day.
Book by email, text or phone as workshop numbers are limited. Includes three course lunch, coffee, tea and home-made biscuits and cake.
